SolarWindow ships 0.85 mm 'peel-and-stick' solar film with 24.4% efficiency
SolarWindow launches 0.85 mm-thick, self-adhesive solar film

US-based SolarWindow Technologies has launched ElectroFlex, an ultra-thin, flexible solar film that sticks to flat or curved surfaces without frames or rigid glass. At just 0.85 mm thick and with a power-to-weight ratio of 73 W/kg, it targets weight-sensitive applications like truck roofs, trains, drones, and aircraft. The film uses interdigitated back-contact cells with 24.4% efficiency, and SolarWindow is initially offering it to Tier 1 OEMs in the US, with plans to expand to North America and Asia.
The company describes ElectroFlex as a “peel-and-stick” solution that can be applied directly to various surfaces without frames, rigid glass, or conventional support structures.

There are already multiple solar roof cars. This should make it easier to integrate solar into these designs.

Uni-Solar used to (or maybe still does?: http://www.uni-solar.com/products/commercial-products/pvl/in...) make flexible 3-mm-thick self-adhesive solar film, and if I remember correctly it could be installed on a roof without a permit, although it still required a permit for the electrical connections, so it probably didn't make things easier.
With some states only requiring UL listed inverters for small plug-in systems, it could become a more viable product.

With plug-in solar initiatives around the world, this will be a gamechanger. If there are superlight, plug and play or DIY install products, everyone can produce energy. No surface left behind!
