Sol - Native macOS music player for local libraries and Subsonic servers

Show HN: Sol, my macOS music player and jukebox app, is now free and open source

Sol is a free, open-source macOS music player designed for people who love their music library. It plays files directly from your folders without conversion or lock-in, supports a wide range of formats including FLAC, ALAC, and DSD, and offers bit-perfect output. Beyond local files, Sol integrates with Subsonic/Navidrome servers, podcasts, internet radio, and features a metadata editor, smart playlists, and a DJ mode. With a classic pane browser, grid view, and album carousel, it handles collections of hundreds of thousands of tracks with ease. Sol is fully native, supports Apple Silicon and Intel, and is translated into 34 languages. No telemetry, no account, no paid tier—just your music, beautifully organized.

Point it at your folders and it plays your files right where they live. Nothing moved, nothing converted, nothing locked in.

What is the point of “showing” something that isn’t actually yours? And if it’s not gonna be maintained? I don’t mind vibe coded stuff, but why do you need to promote it as something you made? You didn’t and you don’t care. You only care about attention. My god. The HN main page is becoming infested with shit like this.

Funny, I was JUST looking for a Foobar-like equivalent for MacOS. I'll have to try this out later. I use Roon for daily use at home, but having a network-free local player that supports everything I play at native bit and sample rate is a huge plus.

Why can’t people even write their own product descriptions without AI anymore???
