Automating Wi-Fi setup testing on the ESP32

Groundrun Automates Testing of Every Wi-Fi Setup Method on ESP32

Groundrun demonstrates automated hardware-in-the-loop testing for all five Wi-Fi commissioning methods on the ESP32-C6: Bluetooth, Soft AP, captive portal, SmartConfig, and WPS. Using Claude to generate a simple Android app and firmware, they built repeatable CI regression tests. Results show captive portal is trickiest due to its brief sign-in window, while Soft AP's mechanism takes nearly 13 times longer than WPS. The setup also required emulating a router for WPS.

Soft AP's mechanism time is nearly thirteen times WPS's, which tracks with its system dialog and multi-screen flow.
