Outlyne cuts React Compiler build time 17.6× by switching to Rust-native Vite support

The Rust React Compiler is now native in Vite

Following the oxc team's official support for the Rust React Compiler, the Outlyne team migrated their 1,036-file React Router codebase to it, achieving a ~17.6× speedup on the compiler portion of their build (14.3s to 0.81s). The v6.1.0 release of @vitejs/plugin-react now offers experimental native support via `{ compiler: true }`, and for non-Vite-React setups, the minimal @acusti/vite-plugin-react-compiler plugin fills the gap. Beyond speed, the Rust compiler fixes several limitations of the Babel-based version, including conditional logic in try/catch blocks and destructured prop reassignment, expanding compiler compatibility. The author also highlights the benefit of toolchain consistency: linter and build now use the same compiler version, eliminating coverage gaps.

It is more than 10 times faster than Babel in our preliminary benchmark.

No more babel in my compilation pipeline, yay!

What's a react compiler? Not JS or TS?

OXC Transformers are amazingly faster than Babel. I'm building a framework (https://github.com/vmsp/flypath) for web, iOS and Android native development that's fully backed by OXC and Vite. Instead of transforming styles using Babel like StyleX, I just use OXC. Instead of Metro (React Native's bundler), which also uses Babel, it's just Vite. It's still very early but it's plenty, plenty fast.

Does this work with reacts fancy new compiler that is meant to optimize away various hooks?

Webdev is the pinnacle of over engineering. And now with AI, it will get even worse. I think the web truly needs a reset.
